About Me

Welcome to my academic website! My name is Christina Fan and I’m a fourth-year HBSc Psychology student minoring in Neuroscience at the University of Waterloo.

Research Interests

My research interests lie in understanding the neural mechanisms underlying cognition across healthy aging and neurodegenerative disease. I am particularly interested in memory and how changes in the brain contribute to cognitive decline, and I hope to investigate these questions through a multidisciplinary approach integrating neuroimaging, biomarkers, and neuropsychological assessment. By better understanding the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive aging and impairment, I hope to contribute to the development of more effective approaches for identifying, preventing, and mitigating cognitive decline.

Past and Current Work

As of Aug. 2026, I wrapped up a project at the Geriatric Neuropsychopharmacology Group at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. This project explored the moderation effect of vascular medication type on exercise-primed tDCS intervention effects on the cognition of older adults at risk of vascular Alzheimer’s disease and/or mild cognitive impairment.

Now, I’m starting up my honors thesis exploring the mechanism behind data compression by comparing symbolic logic and Bayesian approaches to it. I’m also collecting data for a study at the Human Visual Neuroscience Lab at the University of Waterloo, titled “Using brain stimulation to enhance the orientation and mobility skills of individuals with visual impairments”.
